Illicit Drugs W.A.L.T. identify the negative effects of illicit drugs on the body. All you have to do is list and explain 5 negative effects that each of the illicit drugs listed below has on the body. Bullet form is absolutely fine. (Be sure to use as many of your own words as possible.....don't just cut and paste.)
Alcohol:
Can make you dizzy.
It will impair your judgment.
Will cause a hangover which is a headache, nausea, dizziness, thirst and fatigue.
If you drink lots of alcohol when you have bad nutrition, it could cause permanent damage to your vital organs.
Straight after taking a large amount of alcohol, you will have slurred speech, disturbed sleep, nausea, and also vomiting.
Tobacco:
Smoking tobacco is the greatest single cause of death in New Zealand.
When you smoke, you will have a dulled sense of taste and smell.
Straight after you take a puff of cigarette, eight seconds later it is in your brain affecting how it works.
When you smoke for a long time, your skin ages faster and your teeth change colour.
Smoking a cigarette might cause permanent blindness.
Marijuana:
Contains THC which will cause learning and memory problems.
Smoking it may cause lung cancer and raises the risk of a heart attack.
Raises the risk of cancer more than smoking tobacco.
THC affects your cerebellum which controls balance and coordination.
Once you start, you will have an addiction which is a brain disease.
Methamphetamine:
45 minutes later from taking 1 pill, users feel sadness, anxiety, depression, and memory difficulties which can last for a long period of time.
It can cause muscle tension, nausea, blurred vision and sometimes you may faint as well.
If you take MDMA in high doses, it can cause hyperthermia.
MDMA can affect the brain and create depression and sleep problems.
It can cause addiction even though they get unpleasant side effects.
Inhalents:
Once you inhale it, dopamine gets relesed in the brain and you get the urge to keep on doing it.
Toluene which is contained in aerosols can break down your myelin and cause muscle spasms and permanent difficulty with walking, bending and talking.
If the inhalents gat into your cerreriblum, it can make you move very slowly or very clumsy.
If you use inhalents for a long time, it can cause liver failure, heart damage, and muscle weakness.
When you sniff highly concentrated chemicals in aerosols, you might have heart failure and death in minutes.
Strategies that I can use to say "No" to the use of illicit drugs and alcohol.
Say no straight to their face if people offer you some.
